In my article posted on April 3rd, I have edited with a rewording of some thoughts. Please re-read if you so desire.
In the meantime, are you enjoying this beautiful day? I have just returned from Long Island. I don't advertise when I go away, even for a few days. But here I am, about to thrust upon you my personal opinions, which of course you can either ignore, read, or respond to with your own thoughts. Always love to hear from you, either on this site, or to my personal Email.
Even tho I spent my growing up years on Long Island, it is still somewhat of a shock to see the changes.
The congestion is unbelievable. An entire industrial area that once was barren land caused me to lose my way briefly.  Driving on the parkways of L.I. used to be a pleasant drive. I was doing 70 mph in the middle lane on a 55 mph highway, and the other cars were zooming by me on both sides. I only went up to 70 in an attempt to keep up with the flow.
It's a good thing I myself drive fast. The defensive driving must come into play during such times. It is almost impossible for a police officer to pull anyone over as there is bumper to bumper traffic. (yeah, all going well over the limit of 55).
This industrial area of which I speak is where we were going to locate our new home. We have now changed to a different area. Closer to NY City, but a more residential surrounding. Also closer to family and friends, so basically it is a good change.
We still have our current house on the market, but will be moving soon. If we haven't sold, we will just keep it for a weekend or monthly get-a-way, until it sells.
Seems to be hard selling here in Thurman. My opinion, based on what perspective buyers have said, in relation to moving into Thurman, is that the ambulance service is gone; there are no gas stations, a very small fire department, and the nonsense that has gone on politically here for the past several years. I see we were doing alright during the 2017 period, but now that a slight change has been made to the Board, things are worse than during the period from 2011 thru 2016.
And those of you that are against the influx of new folks should stop and think about it. The more residents, the more income for the Town to grow. Perhaps the growth would be an incentive to keep the young folks here. The way it is going there will be no-one left but old folks who won't even be able to pay taxes, let alone support themselves. Soon there will be no Thurman. Do something to invite small industries; jobs for the young and for the retired. Grow your community, and grow your lives. Leave something for those coming after you. Don't be so self absorbed to only care about yourself and the here-and-now.
Perhaps a petition calling for a special election to remove certain council/persons from the Board would be in order. Let's see if the voters of Thurman have the fortitude to do that. I will back it strongly if still here. Thinking of maintaining this as our primary residence until sold, then I can stay involved and still vote.
Enough for now. I have a great deal to catch up on. Enjoy the remainder of the day. Will get back here shortly.
Jean
