Of course you realize I am referring to Political Parties. The very cause of our problems with Congress and our Nation today. Our Representatives in Washington, D.C., in our State Legislatures, and yes, even in the Local areas, have betrayed the American people long enough. The time has come to put a stop to it. The major Political Parties, and also the lesser known, but very active, must be reminded who they work for. They must be reminded, in no uncertain terms, of the Constitution put forth by our Founders. A group of men and women that worked tirelessly, (ON A NO PAY BASIS), to give us the wonderful system that has sustained our Nation these many years. Many good Citizens have tried to get us back on track; the track being the road to our Constitutional way of life. But writing to our Rep's., calling them on the telephone, public protests, and other means that have been tried, seem to do nothing to alter the current mindset of Legislatures today. Well, what else can we do to start winning back our Republic? I don't know. What I do know is that we must start. And we must start today. I have previously suggested that starting at the local level may be the way to go. The pollsters, Political Action Committees, Consultants and others that assist the candidates with their campaigns, pay a great deal of attention to the mindset of local voting. They use it to make their predictions, set up their platforms, and, in general, decide how to proceed for the next election.
The money spent on campaigns is almost "sinful", if I may use the phrase. It is a costly process as you can see by the gross amount of money expended. And that is assuming they are all honest about it??!! I hope you realize that part of your tax dollar goes to such an expense for the candidates. With this in mind, I reiterate a previous suggestion of mine to start at the local level to get back on track with our Republic. We can do it with our vote. But first we must get our friends, neighbors, relatives, and co-workers involved in the process. Too many of us have gotten quite lazy with our voting responsibility. Too many have become uninterested in the activities of our Local, Town, State, and National elected bodies. This is dangerous, this is unacceptable. Only when a subject is near and dear to us individually, to our neighborhood, to our schools, or to anything else we consider important to our life, do we get involved. And even then our interest wanes as time goes on, mostly because of the bureaucratic process. We must finish what we start. We must be patient with the process; after all, how many years of revolutionary protests and actual war did we endure to get our Republic? The most important issue I feel we must attack is the immature separation our Reps. put themselves in with their constant vote counting by Party. The Media, in my opinion, fosters this practice on a daily level. They are constantly dividing votes by Party; always referring to a "side of the aisle". Our Congress should discuss and communicate as ONE, not as a Party. This is not fair to the National Citizenry, it is not fair to the memory of our Founders. It is not fair to the future citizens of this great nation. We must start now. But we need ideas. We need bodies. We must start at our own personal level; see that our actions and efforts are followed by the ?media? and get plenty of publicity, right through til we achieve what goals we set forth; the most important, I feel, is to insist our Representatives leave their "Party" affiliation outside the doors of the great hall of Congress. Vote with your Constituents in mind and heart. Vote according to their wishes, not any Political Party. We have "political Action" committees that raise money for candidates. Why not a Political Monitoring committee? A group of interested and voting residents whose primary goal is to ensure that an individual Representative follows the wishes of the constituents when voting in the Legislative Body. I would also proffer that this same group initiate a policy of "NO PORK". Each Bill shall pertain to one, and ONE ONLY issue. Too many times items that have no relation at all to the title and purpose of a Bill, are added to sneak through an unpopular issue. And we all know that most of the voting Legislative members don't read the entire Bill. They rely, most of the time, on the Clerks and Secretaries in their office, to advise and consent. (too many cooks in the kitchen!!). Starting something like this at the Local level, I feel, will see it carried through to the County, State, and hopefully National level. It's only a start. But it is a start. I call on all communities to consider this viable solution. It just takes one person to initiate, and one to join. From there on the group will grow.
